Profile

My name is Maximilian Forte and I am a professor in anthropology at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. I have been engaged in a long-term study of the Caribs of Trinidad, starting with my first meetings with some of their leading members in Arima in 1995. I have also done brief fieldwork in the Carib Territory of Dominica. I am a founding editor of the Caribbean Amerindian Centrelink (www.centrelink.org) as well as KACIKE: The Journal of Caribbean Amerindian History and Anthropology (www.kacike.org).

At Concordia University, I teach Visual Anthropology, Indigenous Cultures Today, and Political Anthropology, with more courses to be offered in the future.

My book on the Caribs of Trinidad, titled: Ruins of Absence, Presence of Caribs, was published by the University Press of Florida in May of 2005. See: http://www.centrelink.org/presence/.
