Profile

I've been a collector, or more correctly, a pack rat as long as I can remember. One look at my basement or garage will convince you that I'm a hopeless case.

In 1985 I began a collecting focus on old canning jars. I volunteered to edit a newsletter for bottle & jar collectors called "Mound City Empties" in 1990. The newsletter won 3 first place national awards from the Federation Of Historical Bottle Collectors in the five years I ran it. After doing an article about collecting service station oil bottles, I realized that my true love was collecting automobilia and petroliana. I had been collecting those items casually for years.

I turned the newsletter over to a friend in January 1996 and promptly got hooked on the Internet. After not being able to find a Web site that offered really good links and info about petroliana, I decided to develop one on my own, now located at oldgas.com.

My goal has been to foster a community of collectors, vendors and publishers to benefit everyone. My efforts as Open Directory Project editor are a continuation of that.
