Profile

My main research interests are probabilistic reasoning and machine learning. I am a faculty member of the Department of Computing and Information Sciences (CIS) at Kansas State University (K-State or KSU). I graduated from Severn School in 1989, received dual B.S. degrees in CS and Mathematical Sciences and an M.S.Eng. in CS from the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) in 1993, and received the Ph.D. in CS from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in 1998. I am a regular poster in the USENET newsgroups alt.fan.tolkien and rec.arts.books.tolkien.
