I originally became involved with the Open Directory Project in October 1999 when I discovered that my hometown only had 3 sites listed.

The greatest strength of the Open Directory is the depth of knowledge and experience of its editors who have such diverse cultural backgrounds, nationalities, cultures, education and occupations.

One potential Achilles heel of the project is the occasional self-serving editor who joins only to promote his own sites. The work done by fellow meta editors and staff in finding these people is essential to the long-term heath of the directory.

I am always happy to answer submitters and existing or intending editors questions, if I am able, so do not hesitate to ask.
